Today is World Mental Health Day, so we're taking the opportunity to shine some light on the importance of mental health. Mental health matters. You might be thinking "Okay...but what does perfume have to do with mental health?" I'm glad you asked!

DefineMe is all about scent for the mind, body, and spirit. Sure, perfume helps you smell good, but it also makes you FEEL good. Our sense of smell is the most powerful sense we have, so let's use that power for good. Science shows that scent affects our emotional state of being; it is directly connected to our limbic system, also known as the brain's emotional center. One sniff can help lift our mood or help us feel relaxed and calm.

So we know that smelling our favorite scent can can make us feel happier, but what else can we do to promote mental health?

Journal. Writing down your thoughts and emotions is a wonderful practice. Set your intention and jot down whatever comes to mind. And don't feel the need to edit yourself! These are YOUR thoughts. Write them down as they come to you.

Take a bath. Sometimes taking a little you-time by running a warm bath or taking a long shower is just the thing you need to re-set. Treat yourself. Pamper yourself. You deserve it.

Cut screen time. Especially right before bed, try to put your phone down and do an activity that doesn't involve staring at a screen, like reading a book or listening to a new podcast.

Talk a walk. Getting outside, breathing the fresh air, and feeling the sunshine hit your skin does wonders for the soul. If you can't get outside, try doing some yoga or take deep breaths and try a meditation.

Make an effort to set aside some time everyday to take care of your mental health. Be gentle with yourself and be patient. You got this.💕
